Rich Falls Madly In Love with Fictional Women (Part One in a
10 partSeries):
Penny Hartz (Happy Endings):One of my favorite shows currently is Happy Endings. A show who’s on-air schedule I didn’t even know because I found it on Hulu, when I was in bed sick. (A show you should ALL be watching)A big reason I’ve grown to love this show are the characters, some of my favorites in recent memory. My favorite among them? Penny.
Penny isn’t the character that usually powers a show, she isn’t the focal point, nor should she be. Nothing really goes her way (Year of Penny, aside), and her friends are all (arguably) more interesting. She’s used as the butt of every relationship joke ever (The worst kind of jokes in sitcoms) because she’s that character who’s awful at them. Most immediately shown? She mispronounces words (“Sooks”(sucks), “Roof Stoof”(rough stuff), “Ah-Mah-Zing” etc.) and uses too many abrevs. (Hysterecto-), and is a character with a very clear cut shtick. You know what you’re getting with Penny, and you know what will eventually happen. The beauty is in how she gets there. Sure, it will all go wrong for her, but how? She keeps it interesting, and seems like someone I would LOVE to spend time with.
Though hopefully I wouldn’t pick up any of her
flaws annoying tendencies idiosyncrasiesQUIRKS. The word is quirky. Penny is quirky, in the best possible way, and according to the media girls are supposed to be quirky. What they call “a-dork-able”.I guess I bought into it.
Fuck.

I don’t condone this behavior, but I appreciate the advance warning.
